5 Free Leopard Apps You Should Be Using

mbpAfter a lifelong experience with Windows and two year long fling with Linux I’ve switched to Apple recently. What can I say? I love every part of the switch and enjoy the ride up the learning curve.

With all the noob experience that I’ve gather along the past few months I think it is time for me to give back something back to the community. And to do so let me start with my list of 5 free Leopard applications you should be using right now:

Adium - it is an open source IM app. Lots of features, support for multiple accounts and protocols. Plus a cute duck icon on the dock. This was the first application I’ve installed on my newly bought MacBook Pro and I definitely recommend using this app as your default instant messenger.

Alarm Clock - this is my ultimate wake up application. Very small, light and gets the job done. You can define multiple alarms for different days. Alarm can be a sound, an MP3 or a playlist from iTunes. Additionally you get snooze controlled by apple remote and a lovely fade in effect for waking you up in a lovely manner. All: in all great killer app.

AppDelete - testing the whole bunch of applications couldn’t be possible without this little gem. AppDelete allows you to completely uninstall any application from your system including all kinds of hidden preferences folders. This makes the process of checking different applications so much easier.

Cyberduck - need an FTP application that is small, gets the job done and has lovely yellow rubber duck icon? Well, then Cyberduck is the app for you. I don’t know how about you, but I use FTP apps just for transferring files. No need for some out-of-this-world features, just let me get my files to my FTP. Thank you.

smcFanControl - this one is a new one. I’ve been using it for two weeks now and I love it. What it does it controls the speed of your MacBook’s cooling fans allowing you to crank it up a notch. This way you can easily cool your computer few degrees making it more bearable to put it on your lap in a hot summer  afternoon.

Hope you like this first post from a freshly turned Apple lover. More to follow I assure you.

And what about you dear readers? Any other apps you want to mention?
