80’s only the good parts

   I don’t see it at all. I think Flock of Seagulls were way better than Phil Collins. Phil Collins you can hear on elevators now, probably then too. I don’t know why people are so ashamed of what the 80’s were, they were excessive and over the top but I prefer that to our boring bland selves now.

   I don’t think it should be implied Miami Vice could have in any way been taken seriously. And yes, I was there.

   I absolutely agree with you about 80’s being anything but boring and this is why I like that decade a lot.

   My point with those two videos was to show that when speaking about the eighties there is something more than the style (over the top style if you will) that might bother potential viewers.

   I by no means want to disrespect Flock of Seagulls and say that Phil is way better. I just wanted to point out that between all that there are some gems worth looking at like, for example, a very powerful scene from Miami Vice.

   But if the aesthetic of the first video suits you then by all means keep on rocking old school style!

   @dj I don’t feel that I’ve implied what you’ve implied that I’ve implied…

   But I will defend my position that this particular scene is by far one of the most powerful scenes in cinematography from that decade.

   Also I would like to point out the quite obvious aesthetic difference between those two vids and the fact that from our time’s point of view Miami Vice just seems more approachable.

   I think I see what you’re saying here Greg; and that Miami Vice seen was pretty good, I’ve never seen a single episode of the show though (born in ‘85) so I can’t exactly say whether the show was good.

   That Flock of Seagulls song though, that song is awesome! Who wouldn’t have made it to the end? The last verse is the best, so is that dudes sweet solo at the end haha.

   Also, aren’t Flock of Seagulls British? If you asked people worldwide about the 80’s you are probably more likely to get people to remember Flock of Seagulls because Miami Vice was an American show. Many people worldwide watched it but I think FOS might have had a bigger impact. Anyway, I was there too, born in 1971, and I too was embarrassed and ashamed of the 80s for the longest time but as we grow up we realize how silly certain things are. I don’t want to dress and act as I did in the 80s but I really don’t see the dichotomy you are drawing. No offense.

   Every decade has it’s moments. I love the eighties…I even love looking back on the stuff I hated about the eighties…those were my teen years. It’s like how my parents feel about the 60’s.
