jPod. Ultimate geek TV show.
Being soaked in the pop culture as I am, I do enjoy watching tons of TV shows. Never mind the genre. I go from sci-fi to court drama, from comedy to crime. But there is one gem between all of this: jPod.
This is an ultimate TV show for geeks. It is not in the nerd TV shows genre like IT Crowd or The Big Bang Theory. It focuses more on cool parts of being geek. And it is funny.
jPod is made in Canada and the screenplay is based on Douglas Coupland’s book “JPod”. Story concerns a group of game developers That have last names beginning with a letter “J”. They work in a office basement which they refer to as the “jPod”. They work at the company that, as Coupland describes, “resembles, but legally no way is Electronic Arts”. For me that is enough to count me in as a dedicated fan but if you need more then here it comes. Beside the pure awesomeness of watching a show about geeks you can throw in a Korean Drug Lord Kam Fong, main character’s mother that grows weed in the basement and a new boss that tries to make a game to win his son back (and falls in crazy love affair with mentioned earlier mother). All this is actually funny in an intelligent way (sometimes in an awkward geeky way, like when you were to explain to your parents what IRC is).
Only problem with jPod is that it has been cancelled. As always ratings did it. Turns out that there is just not enough geeks out there. As one might expect in this kind of situation, a support site was set up and Save jPod! action has been launched. It is time for jPod to join the group of other great cancelled shows like Firefly and Farscape.
What you can do? Go over to Save jPod! site and show support. Also be on the lookout for jPod DVD as this show is definitely a keeper.
