Nerdcore

Today it is “post pop-culture article” day as my brain is almost fried from intense marathon of highly unsatisfying bugfixing.

And what better to write about than what has been for some time in my headphones - nerdcore. Yep, it is a music genre. Like hardcore, grindcore, something-else-core. Thing is this is completely different.

From wikipedia: “Nerdcore hip hop, or geeksta rap, is a subgenre of hip hop music characterized by themes and subject matter considered to be of general interest to nerds, though it can appeal to others as well. ”

Bottom line here is that this is a music made by nerds for nerds (and geeks). Subjects vary from politics, to Star Wars, computers, science, G. I. Joe the animated series. You name it they rhymed about it. The thing is that I really ( surprisingly ) dig this style. Full of geeky pop-cultural references is something right down my alley.

Where to start if you are into this kind of stuff? How about getting some tunes form the major players of the scene: MC Frontalot, Optimus Rhyme (gotta love the name), MC Chris, Beefy?

After that how about watching a documentary on Nerdcore? There are two: Nerdcore Rising and Nerdcore for Life. Check out the second one’s trailer:

Until now you either love it or hate it. Hope you love it but I do understand if you don’t. This is hard genre to listen to and it takes peculiar state of mind for it. But nevertheless it is something out of the ordinary, worth checking out.
