Processing.js

It hasn’t been too long since I blogged about recent John Resig’s work on Pure JavaScript HTML Parser and now John did it again and released processing.js

It is a javascript (of course) port of Processing a visualization language “built for the electronic arts and visual design communities”.

But why is it cool?

  • it ports whole programming language into another one. If that is not cool enough for you then I don’t know what is :)
  • cool usage of canvas. I love all the stuff that is happening around canvas right now. MooWheel is a great example too with TweetWheel build on top of that
  • this will allow adding some awesome visualizations to websites. All based on javascript. All fun do write and use (hopefully)

If you go over to John’s site you can see lots of small demos and usage of processing.js. Lovely work yet you need to keep in mind that this project is in early stage of release and is targeting features that are available to only newest browsers (specifically to Firefox3, Opera 9.5 and latest WebKit Nightly). Also be sure to get ready that processing.js will squeeze out all the juices from your machine’s CPU. If all that doesn’t scare you head over to check out those great demos and be amazed what modern browsers can do these days.
