What’s wrong with my writing system (and how to change it)

When I started GregWolejko.com I haven’t had a specific system for writing my posts.

Generally I was more focused on delivering solid content than on planning how to write it. But since that time I have gained some experience and the whole post writing process is about to change.

How was I doing it?

All my post writing was done in wordpress. I had a bunch of drafts where I’d put my research on a specific subject that would eventually turn out into full blown posts.

What changed?

Two things. First one was some time ago when I lost half of my post while publishing it. Sounds strange? Yep. Apparently Wordpress has this lovely bug that doesn’t allow publishing content while saving it. Well I learnt it the hard way and became more conscious about publishing.

Second thing happened yesterday - my Internet connection died on me. Since all my research pieces were in the Wordpress I couldn’t finish my today’s post thus being couple hours behind my normal posting schedule.

How to fix it?

After loosing half of my post due to the Wordpress bug I was considering writing my posts using Google Docs. But since yesterday this is not a valid idea.

My current system that I will work on involves desktop solution for both idea gathering and writing final posts. Interaction with Wordpress will only happen while publishing my blog posts. This way all my research notes, post ideas, finished posts will be on my laptop the whole time, allowing me to work on them while not being dependent on Internet connection. Only downfall is that now I am dependent on my laptop as a posting machine but since most of the time I have it by me this shouldn’t be such a problem.

What am I using?

Right now I am testing Scrivener. Seems like a perfect app for my needs but it is not free and since I am a big fan of a free software I will definitely do some research on the application I will settle with.

What about you? Any thoughts on posting system you want to share, dear reader?
