Why I bought a new PC and not a Mac

   2) That’s a relative concept – yes, some PC are more powerful but they never use the full range of it. Macs on the other hand – yes.

   5) drivers, xp/vista, lack of compatibility, unstableness, overheating = “System Failure” = less fun

   In other words “yuck”

   How about Mac as a computer and XBOX/PS/Wii for gaming?

   Oskar, got any proof on your comment in #2 there? As a user of both operating systems and hardware from apple, dell, and ground-up systems, I heavily disagree with you.

   Drivers are provided by the manufacturer of the component, usually, so I don’t see that as an issue. Everyone already knows vista sucks (and I agree), and to go with XP, which is plenty stable, or at least as stable as my experience with OS X has been.

   How often do you hear about someone’s computer overheating and having a system failure that destroys any part of the hardware? It’s really very easy to keep an eye on and manage the temperature.

   Consoles just don’t cut it for a lot of gamers, due to issues of performance, quality, and controls.

   Kaethre, I was a long time PC/Windows user (hence, it’s not like I’m sucking the opinion out of a empty wine bottle) and I had the most awful experience a user could have, especially with the overheating/system failures issue.

   You’re a very brave (and lucky) person, I have to say. Not everyone would have the courage to say Windows is as stable as OSX – two forced restarts a day vs one intentional reboot a month.

   Just to be clear, I don’t want to go into the holy Mac vs PC war. Nothing is going to change my opinion on PCs anyway.

   @oskar - I completely agree with you on that: for a whole UX macs are the way. Less trouble, less pain, pure bliss
   Yet still price + juice+ games make me favor PC (in my current situation)

   @bartaz - I’m not a big console fan thus no console for me. But if I hadn’t had MBP then iMac + 3gen console would definitely be an option.

   @kaethre - good point on consoles and vista but still I have to take issues with XP being as reliable as unix based OSX

   I was a PC person then a mac and back and forth and then both and mostly been a mac person for the last 3-4 years. I too got a new Macbook. I have been contemplating getting a PC as a desktop though. The more I use Gmail and Google Calendar and stuff like that to “GTD” the less I need my .mac or should I say Mobile Me account and then if I don’t use those applications that synch and just use Gmail why do I need the applications, if not for the applications then ummmm. I still like mac but I too am wondering, what I am really wondering is should I have both just so I stay knowledgable on both platforms, here is France very few people have macs.

   I do agree with the poster.

   For a laptop, it’s good to have a mac. Probably no other laptop is that good.

   But for gaming… Gran Turismo doesn’t have the feeling Need for Speed has, and no Halo can even compare with Team Fortress 2. Those games are a world apart.

   And, very soon will Starcraft 2 come, and having a nice PC ready for it is the answer.

   And no Mac or console has a last-gen powerful video card.

   About stability, I can’t remember the last time I rebooted my Windows PC. I work, play, see movies, burn DVDs, use virtual machines, and it doesn’t lock. Don’t buy cheap hardware guys, specially never buy anything PCChips. BTW my rig runs XP, not Vista.

    Mac - yadayada, now I show you my iMovie and iPhoto.
    PC - All the real work, all the real gaming.

    Plain simple

    Note : I own pc and mac. I love both.
